Honours for Welsh farming leaders - CARAS

A number of hardworking and deserving industry leaders have again been honoured by the Council of Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies for their contribution to the agricultural and rural industries in Wales.

The Welsh National Panel and the National Moderators Panel for the Council of Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies scrupulously consider many applications made each year, the following applicants, who were deemed of a high enough standard to be granted the coveted title of either fellow or associate, have been officially presented with their awards at a reception held on the Tuesday evening (19th July) of the 2022 Royal Welsh Show.

Associateships:

In all cases the achievements of candidates are expected to be demonstrably above the general level of other people working in the same field, whether in farming, research, public work or other activities.

Mr Richard Wyn Davies of Llandyrnog, Denbigh
Awarded December 2021 – Facilitation and Knowledge Exchange in the Welsh Dairy Industry

Mrs Myfanwy Edwards of Colwinston, Cowbridge
Awarded in January 2022 – The Promotion and Increased Accessibility of Local Food

Mr Eifion Huws of Bodedern, Caergybi
Awarded in March 2022 – Tireless Contribution to the Agricultural Industry, particularly the Dairy Sector

Mr Eifion Rhys Jones of Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire
Awarded in October 2021 – Breeding for Excellence

Mr Graham Jones of Llanfabon, Pontypridd
Awarded October 2021 – Road to Damascus Start to a journey to change the face of sheep production and improve conformation

Mr Huw Thomas Jones of Gwbert, Cardigan
Awarded just a few days ago – Changes to my farming system over the last 12 years.

Mr Aled Alun Owen of Llannefydd, Denbigh
Awarded December 2021 – Sustainable Milk Production

Mrs Kathryn Whitrow of Neath
Awarded in March 2022 – Pride in Putting Back

Fellowships:
Associates are considered for advancement to Fellowship only if a continuing significant contribution to agriculture or related industry during their period of Associateship can be demonstrated.  Advancement is not automatic and has to be earned by further service to the industry.

Mrs Valerie Cooke of Llantilio Crossenny, Abergavenny
Awarded Associateship in October 2014 – The Joys of Breeding and Showing Cattle. Progressed to Fellowship in April 2020.

Mr Gareth Davies of Llangammarch Wells
Awarded Associateship in March 2015 – Integrating Profitable and Sustainable Farming with the Agricultural Supply Industry. Progressed to Fellowship April 2020

Mr Richard Gibb of Colwinston, Cowbridge
Awarded Associateship in January 2016 – Promoting Dairy. Progressed to Fellowship in November 2021.

Mrs Cynthia Higgon of Crundale, Haverfordwest
Awarded Associateship in January 2016 – My Equine World and Service to the Agricultural Community within Shows in various roles. Progressed to Fellowship in November 2021.

Mr Arthur Owen of Llannefydd, Denbigh
Awarded Associateship in July 2014 – Grass to Milk to Profit and Lifestyle. Progressed to Fellowship in November 2019.

Mr John M Owen of Llandybie, Ammanford
Awarded Associateship in June 2016 – Milk proves its value on Welsh Dairy Farms. Progressed to Fellowship in November 2021.

Mr Richard Roderick of Brecon
Awarded Associateship in October 2016 – Driving toward Sustainable Lamb Production. Progressed to Fellowship in November 2021.

Mr William Lloyd Williams of Machynlleth
Awarded Associateship in April 2015 – My Contribution to Machynlleth and Agriculture in the Dyfi Valley. Progressed to Fellowship in April 2015.
