The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and the rural economy in Wales for over a century, since its formation in 1904.
Today our work includes providing support for business, social welfare and education in rural communities, and the organisation and staging of our ever-popular society events; the Royal Welsh Show and the Winter Fair.

SHOWGROUND
The 150 acre Royal Welsh Showground is open all year round. We host an array of exciting events set against the spectacular views of the Welsh countryside.
The Showground boasts many different venues catering for a variety of occasions such as weddings, business meetings, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and much more.
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society is pleased to announce that Siôn Eilir Roberts of St Asaph Livestock Market has been awarded the 2025 Dr Emrys Evans Memorial Award.
Kindly sponsored by Mrs Mair Evans, this prestigious accolade recognises the achievements of a livestock auctioneer under the age of 35 who is excelling in their field and making a significant contribution to the industry in Wales.
Representing the Clwyd & Cheshire Advisory Committee, Mr Roberts was selected from a strong field of eight candidates from across the country. The winner was chosen following informal interviews and practical assessments, including observations of each candidate in action “on the plank” during livestock sales.
The judges, Gwilym Richards FRICS, FAAV, FLAA and Geraint James FNAEA, MNAVA, FLAA, praised Siôn for his “positive and down-to-earth interaction with both sellers and buyers alike.” They highlighted his efforts to increase throughput at his centre, despite operating in a highly competitive region of North East Wales. “Siôn has shown remarkable ability in drawing new customers to the market, as well as encouraging vendors to return from deadweight to liveweight selling,” they said.
The judging panel explored a broad range of modern auctioneering skills, including the use of online platforms such as Marteye, financial and account management, and communication techniques.
“It was an honour to judge this year’s competition,” said the judges. “We were heartened by the calibre of the young auctioneers—ranging in age from 21 to 34—each bringing different strengths and enthusiasm to the profession.”
The other candidates represented livestock markets from Sir Fôn/Anglesey to Penfro/Pembrokeshire, demonstrating the depth of young talent and the promising future of livestock auctioneering in Wales.
Mr Roberts will receive a medal and certificate during the Society’s award presentations on the first day of the Royal Welsh Show, Monday 21st July, continuing the tradition of honouring excellence in memory of Dr Emrys Evans.
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society extends its sincere thanks to Mrs Mair Evans for her continued support of this important award.
