The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and the rural economy in Wales for over a century, since its formation in 1904.
Today our work includes providing support for business, social welfare and education in rural communities, and the organisation and staging of our ever-popular society events; the Royal Welsh Show and the Winter Fair.

SHOWGROUND
The 150 acre Royal Welsh Showground is open all year round. We host an array of exciting events set against the spectacular views of the Welsh countryside.
The Showground boasts many different venues catering for a variety of occasions such as weddings, business meetings, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and much more.
Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Award winner announced at Royal Welsh Show
The winner of the prestigious Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Award was revealed on the opening day of the 2026 Royal Welsh Show (Monday 20 July), with Mr Brian Davies FRAgS, Garthbrengy, Brecknock, receiving the Society’s highest honour.
Presented annually by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, the Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Award recognises individuals who have reached the highest level of achievement within a chosen sector of the agricultural industry. This year’s award celebrates an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the success of a local or regional agricultural show in Wales.
With the three shortlisted finalists and their families gathered for the announcement, the Society’s President, Gethin Havard, revealed Mr Davies as the 2026 recipient.
Brian Davies has dedicated 59 years of service to Brecknock Agricultural Society, helping to sustain one of the UK’s oldest agricultural shows. A former Chairman, Vice Chairman and President, he has played a pivotal role in encouraging young people and local families to become involved, helping to secure the long-term future of Brecon County Show.
Supporting their decision, judges Mr Harry Fetherstonhaugh OBE FRAgS and Mrs Susan Jones FRAgS said:
“We unanimously agree that the winner exemplifies the very highest standards of leadership, commitment and dedication, leaving a lasting legacy that will benefit the show for years to come. A truly deserving recipient of this award.
“Brian’s contribution ensures the Brecon County Show remains relevant, inclusive and capable of evolving in a changing world and changing agricultural landscape.
“His understanding of how the event works, together with his unwavering commitment to its volunteers and his ability to inspire the next generation is most impressive, and will help ensure the long-term future of the show.”
Mr Davies was presented with the Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Trophy, Medal and Certificate during the Awards Ceremony on the opening day of the Royal Welsh Show. The Society also acknowledges, with thanks, the sponsorship of the Medal by Mr Gareth Roberts FRAgS, a member of the Society’s Board of Directors.
The award commemorates Sir Bryner Jones, one of the most influential figures in the history of Welsh agriculture and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society. He helped shape the direction of the Society for more than 50 years, serving as Honorary Show Director from 1908 to 1910, Chairman of Council from 1944 to 1953 and President in the Society’s 50th year in 1954.
Beyond the Society, Sir Bryner was Head of the Department of Agriculture at Aberystwyth College and became one of Wales’ leading agricultural education figures. He later served as Commissioner and Chairman of the Agricultural Council for Wales before becoming Welsh Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. Knighted in 1947, his legacy continues through an award first presented in 1957.
