Travel to the Royal Welsh Show with Transport for Wales - Royal Welsh

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and the rural economy in Wales for over a century, since its formation in 1904.

Today our work includes providing support for business, social welfare and education in rural communities, and the organisation and staging of our ever-popular society events; the Royal Welsh Show and the Winter Fair.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Winter Fair from 30th November – 1st December 2026.

SHOWGROUND

The 150 acre Royal Welsh Showground is open all year round. We host an array of exciting events set against the spectacular views of the Welsh countryside.

The Showground boasts many different venues catering for a variety of occasions such as weddings, business meetings, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and much more.

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and Transport for Wales are once again encouraging visitors to travel sustainably to this year’s event, with rail and bus services providing convenient routes to the showground.

Taking place from Monday 20th – Thursday 23rd July at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, the Royal Welsh Show attracts thousands of visitors from across Wales and beyond each year. With increased focus on sustainable travel and easing congestion around the event, organisers are encouraging attendees to consider travelling by public transport, including rail services to Builth Road station, located just over a mile from the showground.

Transport for Wales will support visitors travelling to the event with rail services connecting from across Wales and the borders, including routes from Cardiff through some of Wales’ most scenic countryside. Free shuttle buses will operate between Builth Road station and the showground throughout the week, while TrawsCymru bus services will also provide an alternative way for visitors to travel to the Show.

Visitors travelling by train on the Heart of Wales line, and holding a valid rail ticket, can purchase discounted Royal Welsh Show admission tickets for £35 (Adult) and £11 (Child) from conductors and ticket offices along the route. Children under 16 travel free with a fare-paying adult.

To help promote public transport travel to the event, Transport for Wales and the Heart of Wales Line Community Rail Team have created a new promotional video featuring a giant train ticket travelling along the route from Cardiff to Builth Road. The video showcases the stunning Welsh landscape while highlighting just how easy it is to travel to the Royal Welsh Show by train.

Transport for Wales and Network Rail will also host an interactive stand at the Show, featuring a range of family-friendly rail safety activities and entertainment. Visitors will be able to enjoy immersive VR headset experiences, story time sessions, badge-making classes and rail safety performances, while the Builth Wells Male Voice Choir will visit the stand on the Monday of the Show.

If you’re under 16 and travelling by train on the Heart of Wales line to the Show, don’t forget to collect your free activity sheet whilst on board. Completed artwork can then be brought to the Transport for Wales stand at the Show for a chance to win a prize.

Travelling by rail or bus offers visitors a stress-free and sustainable way to enjoy one of Wales’ biggest events, while also helping to reduce traffic congestion during the busy Show week. Visitors are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance using the Transport for Wales website and journey planner.
