The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and the rural economy in Wales for over a century, since its formation in 1904.
Today our work includes providing support for business, social welfare and education in rural communities, and the organisation and staging of our ever-popular society events; the Royal Welsh Show and the Winter Fair.

SHOWGROUND
The 150 acre Royal Welsh Showground is open all year round. We host an array of exciting events set against the spectacular views of the Welsh countryside.
The Showground boasts many different venues catering for a variety of occasions such as weddings, business meetings, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and much more.
Some very kind words of wisdom were given to me at the very beginning of this journey by none other than our President, Mr Gethin Havard. Those words were, “to honour the honour”.
It has been nothing short of an honour and a privilege to serve as Ambassador for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society during Brecknock’s year as Feature County. The last time Brecknock was in the driving seat as Feature County, I was just 14 years old, a small cog in the journey as a member of the county choir and supporting local events.
I now appreciate the true scale of the campaign, but even then I vividly remember the overwhelming sense of pride I felt stepping onto the shearing shed stage for Moliant y Maes, before watching the opening ceremony the following morning. Fourteen years on, that sense of pride has come full circle.
This time, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing the journey from a completely different perspective – as part of the Advisory Committee and wider sub-committee groups. I have witnessed first-hand the dedication and community spirit behind the Brecknock campaign, with a calendar full of memorable events.
I was born and raised in Trecastle, on the edge of Mynydd Epynt in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog. My journey has taken me from Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera to Aberystwyth University, where I studied History and International Politics. More recently, I completed a Master’s in Strategic and Digital Marketing in Cardiff, alongside my role as Social Media Lead at Farming Connect.
One place where I have always felt a strong sense of belonging is the Royal Welsh Show.
As someone without a direct farming background, that sense of belonging has been particularly significant. The Show has given me the opportunity to find my place in the rural community – from competing on the YFC stage alongside my fellow Sennybridge YFC members, to working in the Food Hall and stepping into the sheep ring. Through these experiences, I have come to appreciate the pride and community spirit at the heart of the Show.
My time as Ambassador, and previously as Deputy shadowing Rhys Griffith of Caernarfonshire, has given me a deeper appreciation of the scale of the operation. From volunteers and exhibitors to trade stands and sponsors, it is this collective effort that brings it to life year after year.
One of the most influential opportunities has been the Royal Welsh Rural Leadership Programme. It challenged my thinking, broadened my perspective and gave me the confidence to apply for the role of Ambassador. The experience also highlighted a commonly felt need across the industry to reconnect our rural communities with our towns and cities – a theme I am keen to champion.
None of this would be possible without the tremendous effort of the Brecknock Feature County committee and the many individuals who have given their time and support over the past two years. It is this Feature County element that makes the Royal Welsh Show so distinctive – with each county leaving its own mark both on the showground and within its communities.
As I look ahead to the rest of my time as Ambassador, I am particularly looking forward to getting to know more members of this fantastic Society and building friendships with Ynys Môn as they begin their journey. I also look forward to hearing Côr Brycheiniog raise the roof of the shearing shed during Moliant y Maes – bringing everything full circle for me.
I would also like to wish Mari Llifon every success during her time as Ambassador.
